Magical Realism Volume 2

, A World Beyond the Real

In the mystical town of Macondo, where flowers fall from the sky and ghosts pass through open doors without surprise, begins the inspiration for Magical Realism, the latest collection by Tata Christiane.

Drawing from One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967) by Gabriel García Márquez, this collection dives into the poetic logic of magical realism—a genre that merges the fantastic with the familiar to create a world where magic is matter-of-fact.

Magical realisme Volume 2, The Fiction of Fabric

Fashion, in this context, becomes a narrative device. Each piece tells a story where memory loops, timelines unravel, and meaning is multilayered. The collection is named after the genre itself, Magical Realism, a term first used by the German art historian Franz Roh in 1925. His vision of art as both fantastic and real echoes here in cloth and thread.

To wear this collection is to wear a kind of fictional truth, where what is real and what is imagined are indistinguishable.

Magical realisme Volume 2, Sustainable Dreams

At the heart of the collection is a commitment to sustainable creativity. Many garments are made from deadstock fabrics—textiles left behind by the fashion industry, revived here in new shapes and forms. This process not only honors the forgotten but also resists the cycle of waste, giving each piece a layered past before it meets the present.

In tandem, the use of handmade crochet—soft, human, delicate—adds another layer of narrative. These woven motifs echo the domestic and the fantastical, rural craft and cosmic mythology. Every stitch is a whisper, a memory kept.

Magical realisme Volume 2, A Language of Texture

This is a collection of contradictions: feathers and faux furs, striped jerseys beside metallic jacquards, tulle layered over playful cartoon prints, and velvets coexisting with crushed cottons. The looks mock convention. They dance between costume and uniform. They laugh and sigh.

You’ll find dresses that recall circus dreams, coats that double as shields, and skirts built like paintings—bright, layered, fragmented. Each piece is a wearable collage, stitched from symbols and saturated emotion.

Magical Realism Volume 2, Captured Through a Mythical Lens

The lookbook, photographed by Valquire Veljkovic, captures this in-between world with profound poetry. Through layered imagery and reflective surfaces, Veljkovic distorts and doubles the model’s presence. She appears to hover, multiply, or dissolve—echoing the magical logic of Márquez’s world.

The images are not just fashion photography, but visual stories in themselves—haunting, vivid, and rich with mood. The model floats between time, dressed not for the moment but for myth.

Magical Realism Volume 2, Clothes for the In-Between

This is not a seasonal wardrobe. It is not anchored in trend or time. These garments exist between dusk and dream, for characters that write their own stories and slip between roles. They are theatrical, humorous, and unapologetically personal.

In the words of scholar Theo L. D’haen in Magical Realism and Postmodernism, this aesthetic is marked by “self-reflexiveness, multiplicity, intertextuality, and the dissolution of narrative boundaries.” These words could also describe this very collection.

Magical Realism Volume 2, A Story Yet to Be Written

Magical Realism by Tata Christiane invites you to dress with wonder. With humour. With a sense of fiction. With joy. Each look is a spell. Each outfit, a portal.

Because reality is only one version of the story—and sometimes, it’s better rewritten.
