NEW TRADITIONS — Tata Christiane represents France at the Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition 2026.October 2026 | Bangkok, ThailandFrom Marseille to Bangkok, from Provençal traditions to contemporary experimental fashion, Tata Christiane explores the meeting of cultures through textile, craftsmanship and imagination. The Berlin-based fashion label, founded by French designer Julie Bourgeois, was invited to represent France at the Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition 2026, held from October 11 to 18 at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. Bringing together designers from more than 100 countries, the exhibition celebrated Thai silk through contemporary creations inspired by the cultural identities and traditions of participating nations.Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in collaboration with the Association of Thai Silk & Culture Promotions, the exhibition took place in connection with Thailand hosting the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

For Tata Christiane, this invitation became an opportunity to explore a deeply personal subject: the relationship between cultural heritage, traditional costume and contemporary fashion.

Provence Meets Thai Silk in Bangkok: The Story Behind NEW TRADITIONS

Born in Marseille and now based in Berlin, Julie Bourgeois has developed a distinctive fashion language in which contrasting materials, unexpected proportions, vibrant prints and unconventional silhouettes come together.

For this project, she returned to her Provençal roots, drawing inspiration from the traditional costumes of southern France.

Under the title NEW TRADITIONS — Provence Meets Thai Silk, Tata Christiane reimagined traditional volumes, ruffles, florals and contrasting prints through the encounter of two textiles: black Thai silk and three meters of Provençal fabric from Les Colorades.

The black Thai silk introduces depth and fluidity, while the Provençal textile brings its decorative patterns and the visual heritage of southern France.

Rather than reproducing a historical costume, the design proposes a contemporary interpretation of cultural memory. Familiar elements of Provençal clothing are transformed, exaggerated and recomposed through Tata Christiane’s characteristic approach to silhouette and textile composition.

The result is a dialogue between two textile traditions, celebrating their differences while discovering new possibilities through their encounter.

A Tribute to Marseille, Maison Mode Méditerranée and Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux

Beyond its aesthetic inspiration, this creation is also a tribute to Marseille and to the people and institutions that have contributed to the recognition of Mediterranean fashion.

Julie Bourgeois wishes to pay particular tribute to Maison Mode Méditerranée and its founder, Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux, whose commitment to promoting Mediterranean fashion, supporting emerging designers and celebrating the region’s creative identity has played an important role in the development of its fashion scene.

As a 2020–2021 laureate of the Fonds de Dotation Maison Mode Méditerranée, Julie Bourgeois shares this vision of fashion as a cultural expression rooted in local identities while remaining open to international dialogue.

Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux’s work to promote Marseille and Mediterranean creativity resonates with the spirit of NEW TRADITIONS: the belief that cultural diversity, craftsmanship and regional heritage are powerful sources of contemporary creation.

Bringing a piece of Provence to Bangkok is therefore also a way of honoring this Mediterranean creative heritage and the people who have helped give it international visibility.

Two Textiles, Two Cultural Histories

For the 2026 edition, the Association of Thai Silk & Culture Promotions supplied black Thai silk to participating designers worldwide, inviting them to create original garments reflecting their respective national identities.

The choice of black silk also carried commemorative significance, as explained by the organizers in connection with Thailand’s period of royal mourning.

To complement this material, Julie Bourgeois selected three meters of Provençal textile from Les Colorades, creating a direct material connection with the region where she was born.

The meeting of these fabrics became the starting point for the design process. Their contrasting textures, colors and cultural associations offered an opportunity to explore how traditional materials can be brought together in unexpected ways.

Working with these two textile identities, Tata Christiane developed a silhouette that celebrates contrast rather than attempting to erase differences.

This approach reflects the label’s broader philosophy: clothing is not simply a product, but a medium for storytelling, transformation and individual expression.

A Continuing Dialogue with Thai Silk: From Bangkok to Marseille and Back

Tata Christiane’s participation in the Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition 2026 is part of a longer creative relationship with Thai silk and its cultural heritage.

In 2022, Julie Bourgeois participated in the 3rd International Thai Silk Fashion Week in Bangkok, exploring the meeting of Thai textile traditions and Tata Christiane’s experimental approach to fashion.

This dialogue continued in June 2026 during Slow Fashion Week Marseille, where Tata Christiane presented an exhibition featuring Thai silk and traditions alongside a broader exploration of emotional clothing, textile heritage and creative transformation.

With NEW TRADITIONS — Provence Meets Thai Silk, presented in Bangkok in October 2026, this exchange takes on a new dimension. By combining black Thai silk with Provençal textiles from Les Colorades, Julie Bourgeois brings together cultural influences that have accompanied her creative journey.

From Bangkok to Marseille and back to Bangkok, Thai silk has become a recurring thread in Tata Christiane’s exploration of cultural exchange, textile heritage and contemporary fashion.

Fashion as Cultural Memory and Transformation

Since its foundation in 2007, Tata Christiane has developed a practice that challenges conventional ideas of fashion, beauty and uniformity.

Working with vintage textiles, deadstock materials, patchwork, deconstruction and unexpected combinations, the label creates garments that celebrate individuality and the emotional qualities of clothing.

For Julie Bourgeois, traditions are not fixed forms that must remain unchanged. They are living sources of inspiration, capable of being reinterpreted through contemporary experiences and artistic experimentation.

The NEW TRADITIONS project embodies this perspective.

By bringing together Thai silk and Provençal fabric, Tata Christiane suggests that cultural heritage can remain meaningful precisely because it continues to evolve.

The project is not about choosing between tradition and modernity, but about creating a space where both can coexist, influence one another and generate something new.

An International Celebration of Textile Culture

The Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition brought together creative perspectives from over 100 countries, highlighting Thai silk as a material capable of connecting diverse artistic and cultural identities.

Beyond the exhibition at Siam Paragon, the program also included the Amazing Thailand Grand Fashion Show on October 16 at Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit.

For Tata Christiane, participating in this international initiative represents another chapter in the label’s ongoing exploration of fashion as an artistic and cultural language.

Provence Meets Thai Silk in Bangkok is more than an exhibition project for Tata Christiane. It represents an ongoing creative dialogue between Mediterranean heritage, Thai craftsmanship and contemporary experimental fashion.

From the traditional dress of Provence to the craftsmanship of Thai silk, NEW TRADITIONS celebrates the creative possibilities of cultural exchange.

It is an invitation to reconsider tradition not as something belonging exclusively to the past, but as something continuously reinvented in the present.

Two cultures, two textile histories, one new expression.

NEW TRADITIONS — Provence Meets Thai Silk.
